Jeri is a website designer and content manager with over 14 years of experience designing and managing websites, her own art sites as well as sites for state-wide non-profits. She has specialized in image optimization and security on the web. Jeri is the author of a book entitled “Protecting your Online Images: the information you need to decide how to protect your images on the Internet.” She is also an artist and printmaker working from her with Digital Eyes Studio in Windsor, Maine.

Jen is a talented computer generalist with experience in drafting, mapping, imaging and design for websites. Sample of Basic Site

I’ve been possessed by some digital painting projects and landscapes. I’ve just posted a collection of my most recent in a slideshow on the homepage of my site at http://withDigitalEyes.com. Please visit it, but here’s a taste of my landscape craze.

I’d been playing with some of these techniques, but it was great having guidance and the freedom to explore without fear of ruining my printers.

The image to the right is called Red Sky in Morning (Sailors take Warning), and I had done it before the workshop as a hand pulled mono-print on enameled aluminum and finished with encaustic techniques. I have three more that are waiting for me to do today.

Because of the workshop I now have a terrific print on a custom substrate that I made from spun polyester and modeling paste. I also embedded a leaf that I had found on the ground on the way into the Center one day. I scanned the leaf before embedding it and over-printed this image:

The print now has three leaves, one the natural brown/gold color and the other two scanned and turned white with under-painting and a mesh screen scan overlay.

I came around the corner of a street and was blinded by the sun reflecting off this house. I went back later to take a photo.

Lily Burst

“Lily Burst” is below.

I’ve been playing with transfers onto aluminum today. I tried both of these. Not too bad, but not good enough. I’ll have to keep experimenting.

I just completed an image incorporating handwriting as the major element of the design. It is very different from most of my other pieces which tend to have a lot of movement. This piece depends on the writing to provide that movement.

It is called “Messages” and can be seen in my “Memories” collection. Click on the image to go to that show and see it much larger.

New Caribbean Inspired Images

February in Maine produces thoughts of the Caribbean. After a month of rain and wind and looking at the ugly ground, dead grass, and piles of dirty snow, I guess I dove into color this week.

All are based on the same color pallet and a painted background in Corel Painter. Then each square image is collaged with original photographs or fractals. The center rectangular piece includes collaged pieces from each of the square images.

Midnight Shore

I have two new contemporary landscapes on my website.

They were both made by painting the background in Corel Painter and then bringing them into Photoshop for color adjustments. I then collaged some recursive fractal flames that I had made using an open sourced program called Apophysis.

This technique gives an intriguing out of world feel to a painting heavy with brush strokes.

Somerville Dam

I’m really pleased with this one!

Years ago, I had taken a series of photos of a broken down dam in Somerville, Maine. It was early spring and water was tumbling through the wreckage of the dam walls and pieces of machinery which had been abandoned to rust.

Starting with a floor tile as inspiration, I created the background and put a fractal onto it. Adjustments with blending changes on the layers brought me to the colors and transparency that I was looking for. Of course, I didn’t know what I was looking for until I saw it.

I then tried several landscape photos in the mix, and didn’t like any of them. So I began going through my collection of photos from years ago.

The fractal had a circular motion in the center and rang a note of similarity with the turbine wheel (I guess that’s what it was) that was downstream from the dam walls. Using my photos, I began layering bits and pieces of the photos to create the collage. A lot of adjustments, rearranging, and structuring elements resulted in the final image.

I feel that this is the direction that I’m going to be following, at least for awhile.
